About HMCS Discovery Naval Reserve

The Royal Canadian Navy identifies HMCS Discovery’s buildings on the historic military reserve of Deadman Island and describes its continuing naval role. It is a shore establishment rather than a permanently moored public museum ship. Treat its work and access requirements accordingly.

Finding the right arrival point

For an arranged visit, use the host’s directions and the 1200 Stanley Park Drive address published by the Vancouver Naval Museum. Confirm where you should wait or enter. The island label should not be used as a public shortcut from the seawall.

What to check before visiting

The museum’s visitor information requires adults to show government-issued photo identification at the gate and publishes selected opening dates. Those openings do not establish general access to the reserve facility. Outside an authorized visit, remain on public paths and follow gate instructions.

Combine this stop with nearby places

If you want naval history, start with the museum’s opening information before planning transport. For an outdoor outing without entry to the reserve, use the public Coal Harbour or eastern park waterfront and keep the military site as a viewed landmark.

Sources and current information

Check current operating details with the responsible operator. A source-review date does not claim an on-site visit; older route references do not establish current access.
