Things to do

Cycling in Stanley Park

For the perimeter ride, travel counter-clockwise from the Coal Harbour side toward Brockton Point, then around the coast to Third and Second beaches. Read the dated closure notice before setting off.

Which direction do you ride?

The park map marks counter-clockwise travel around the perimeter cycling route. Use the inside cycling lane; the waterside lane is for walking and jogging. Follow signs at shared crossings and temporary dismount points. Open the City park map.

Starting beside Second Beach does not mean you can reverse the perimeter route toward Third Beach. If you want a short outing from the west side, choose a permitted connection or walk instead. Another rider’s choice is not evidence of the permitted direction.

A seawall ride from Coal Harbour to Second Beach

When the circuit is available, follow the eastern waterfront past the totem-pole area and Brockton Point, continue toward Lumberman’s Arch and the north shore, then pass below the Lions Gate Bridge before reaching Siwash Rock, Third Beach and Second Beach. The high Prospect Point lookout is an additional uphill visit.

The City gives about one hour of cycling for its approximately 9km park seawall portion. Add your approach, stops and rental return. The current works notice can invalidate that ordinary circuit. See the seawall sequence for orientation.

Choosing a bike and a rental period

Allow a rental window for fitting, a practice ride, riding, breaks and return. A confident rider moving continuously and a family taking photographs need different bookings. Avoid basing the rental solely on moving time.

If you are short, tall or need an adapted cycle, ask about the actual frame size and fit. Test braking and turning before joining a busy path. Confirm helmet, lock, child equipment and late-return terms with the rental operator.

Roads, forest trails and temporary diversions

Stanley Park Drive, the seawall and forest trails are different environments. Consult the forest-trail map and current signs rather than assuming every dirt path allows cycling. This guide does not certify every e-bike or scooter as permitted on every route.

Work diversions can involve different surfaces and shared spaces. If the route or equipment is unsuitable for someone in the group, choose a shorter outing instead of pressing on to complete a circuit.

Stops, children and returning the bike

Pull clear of the through lane before taking photographs, reading a map or helping a child. Lock the bike for a beach or meal stop. Plan toilets and water before longer coast sections.

Finishing at Second Beach is not the same as returning a rented bike. Agree on the permitted route back to your particular shop before leaving it, and include that leg in the rental period.

Sources and current information

Check current operating details with the responsible operator. A source-review date does not claim an on-site visit; older route references do not establish current access.
