Where Second Beach is and how to arrive
The City locates Second Beach at Stanley Park Drive and North Lagoon Drive. Use Map for orientation, or the named Second Beach North/South areas in our parking guide. From the city side, approach through English Bay rather than treating the main park entrance as the only way in.
Set a return point before starting: the same car park for a compact outing, or the English Bay side for an onward walk and meal. The #19 bus loop is a different arrival; compare the final leg in getting here.
Playground, picnic and pool choices
The City lists a playground, picnic shelter and nearby Ceperley Meadow alongside beach facilities. A private gathering using the shelter requires a reservation. City Second Beach details.
For a flexible family visit, choose beach time or playground time as the main activity and make the other optional. If you book a swim, leave room for changing and entering the facility rather than placing another fixed activity immediately afterwards. Read Second Beach Pool status before making that the centre of the day.

Toilets, food and accessibility
Public washrooms, pay parking and a concession are listed here. Use our facility guide for operating limitations and our concession directory for the food location. Seasonal availability means a packed snack remains useful.
For mobility needs, read the beach equipment and route guidance. Access to the paved waterfront, access across sand and assistance entering water are different questions; confirm the part you actually need.
When to visit and what changes by season
For a non-swimming outing, choose daylight and a forecast that suits time outside. In the supervised swimming season, follow current lifeguard instructions and signs. Check water-quality information and coastal conditions before entering the sea.
A cooler-season visit can still be a short shore walk, but should not depend on the pool or a concession being open. Build the day around what is operating on your date, not the summer photograph.
A simple outing and return plan
Try a simple sequence: arrive and use the washroom; take the 40-minute waterfront out-and-back; spend the remaining time at the beach or playground; return to your start or continue toward English Bay. This is an editorial suggestion, not a field-timed route.
Read work notices before extending along the coast. If you want Third Beach as well, make the connecting journey a deliberate addition rather than an assumed quick extra.
